If you have carpal tunnel pain, relief can sometimes be as simple as massaging your hands.
Massaging your own hands and arms when you wash them or apply lotion will help your muscles (as well as your nerves and other soft tissues, too.) This is something youcan do several times a day, even if it’s just for one minute at a time.
Massage is very beneficial (it’s old medicine!) and will help relax and normalize tight tissues and “get the blood flowing”.
Not only is massage good for the muscles being massaged, it is also good for the muscles that are doing the massage. If you can massage your own arms and hands, you will
be using many more muscles than usual and that’s a very good thing!
Take the time to rub or massage around each finger and your thumb. Rub into your thick thumb muscle. Massage your forearm all the way to your elbow. When you do this, look for tender areas.
If you press into a tender area in your arm, does it “fire” or cause pain or uncomfortable sensations into your hand? If so, you have found a trigger point. Good Job!
But whether you have a trigger point or not, tender muscles will benefit from massage.
Press on a trigger point for about 12 seconds and it will start to release. It may feel as though your pressure is getting less but actually it’s your muscle “releasing” or relaxing.
There’s more here about do-it-yourself massage. Just go to the Massage Category. You will also find articles there that will help you find a massage therapist if you need a professional to help.
When you understand the causes of pain and other symptoms in your hands, you will have a much better idea of how to get rid of those causes. Getting rid of the causes will give you carpal tunnel pain relief!
