Is Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome related to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Well, everything is caused by something so it is possible that some of the causes of carpal tunnel symptoms could also cause tarsal tunnel symptoms. I’m thinking of hormonal imbalances or Vitamin B6 deficiency or muscular imbalances.
The tarsal “tunnel” is inside your ankle. If the nerves in the tunnel get aggravated from pressure (nerves don’t like pressure) they will cause symptoms. In this way, it’s similar to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The symptoms may be numbness, tingling and pain.
There are two episodes of Carpal Tunnel Radio which talk about foot pain and specifically Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome.
You can also find
a few more articles at Simple Pain Relief which will give you lots more info, too. Check the “Categories” for “Foot Pain.”
Rolling your foot on a bottle full of ice can help and so can massage. I don’t mean nice massage, either.
There is a lot of useful information about how to self-treat the trigger points (crabby areas of muscle that cause pain elsewhere) in Claire Davies self-help trigger point book. Available at Amazon or your local library. This book is easy to understand and shows you pictures of the symptom areas as well as “where to press” to get rid of your symptoms.
There may be more than just one area causing your foot pain. It’s possible that the muscles that are involved are all the way up into your hip! All of these areas should be “released.” Massage therapy is a great tool whether you do-it-yourself or hire a professional therapist.
Sometimes we just can’t be quite as “mean” to ourselves as a massage therapist can. If you can’t force yourself to get deeply into your muscles because it is so tender, you may have to locate a massage therapist to help you relieve your Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome.
