What Causes Pain In Your Middle Finger

If your middle finger is not broken or sprained, the most likely cause of pain in that finger is your muscles.

Depending on exactly where the middle finger pain is, here are the most likely possibilities:

On the side of your middle finger:

The muscles are small ones on the back side of your hand.

On the palm side of your middle finger:

The muscles are on the palm side of your lower arm.

On the back side of your middle finger:

Those muscles are on the “outside” or “back side” of your lower arm way up toward your elbow.

Here’s how to find the cause and treat the pain:

Press

around and into the area that you suspect.  If you find tight muscles (and especially if you can cause your symptoms to feel a little better or worse when you press) then you have hit the jackpot!

Or at least, you have found the area of muscle that is the most likely cause of your middle finger pain.

If you find tender areas, good job!  Now, they probably need just a bit of treatment by you to keep them from coming back all the time.  Treating these muscles means pressing, pinching or massaging them to get them to “relax” or “release.”

Also, check your posture and position of your hands and arms if you type.

Keep your wrists “flat” or straight when keyboarding.  Don’t let them bend up or down.  Bending aggravates those lower arm muscles.

Keep your elbow at a right angle or 90 degrees (some folks call it a “square” angle.)

Let your elbow be below your shoulder.

Any movements you can do to keep your shoulder muscles (and chest and neck) relaxed and “soft” will also help you get rid of the pain in your middle finger.
