People with wrist pain and carpal tunnel symptoms write to me and I love sharing the letters with you. Joe has had a lot of relief from having a massage therapist work on the most likely muscular causes of his pain.
A little background: Joe took the necessary steps to find out which muscles were probably involved (he got it from me) and took that information to a massage therapist who worked with his direction. Joe wrote to me again and here’s what he had to say about his therapeutic massage.
“Hi Kathryn,
My first treatment (isn’t this great? His first treatment!) did get rid of pain on the right side of my wrist which felt very good. The pain did move slightly to the middle of my hand and to the left. After my next massage treatment I did feel the pain returning to the original place but fortunately it wasn’t significant. I’m can now manage to play squash twice by first warming up the wrist. I have a fear that if I have another treatment it will move the pain back again. I still get slight
symptoms but it is improving day by day.”
Here’s my response.
“Hi Joe,
Keep in mind that all of your muscles belong to the same union. If one is unhappy, his co-workers will probably also be unhappy. That is why the pain moves sometimes when one area is treated. There may be more muscles involved which also need treatment.
Very good idea to warm your wrist first! (before playing squash.)
It can continue to get better day by day all by itself. You can explore by yourself to see what other areas may be tender and involved. If you notice symptoms returning, it’d probably be the best idea to return to your massage therapist.
I love it that you’re only having slight symptoms and are improving daily! Good job taking action!”
Joe took action and that’s why his symptoms are almost all gone. When he first wrote to me he wasn’t happy that he couldn’t play squash and was having a lot of pain in his wrist. Therapeutic massage can make a huge difference in your level of discomfort, symptoms and well-being.
