Thumb and Finger Pain – What Causes Pain In Your Fingers and Thumb

Is pain in your thumb and fingers related to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?  Well, if you actually have that medical condition it may be.  Why did I say “if”?

A syndrome is a bunch of symptoms.  Symptoms are things like pain, numbness, burning.  And each symptom has a cause.  More often than an actual medical condition, the symptom is caused by muscles or a nutritional deficiency.

Probably 90% of the time, pain in your hand is caused by muscles.  The muscles can be in your hand, lower arm, upper arm and even in your chest, back and neck!  Knowing which muscles are causing pain in your thumb and fingers will allow you to “treat” them and get relief.

I recommend a self-help trigger point point book by Claire Davies.  It is a great help in knowing exactly which

muscles are causing finger and thumb pain and where and how to treat them.  The illustrations are very helpful.  The treatment is pressure or massage on specific areas.  That releases the trigger points and gets rid of your pain.

Sometimes thumb pain is caused by the muscles at the base of your thumb or in the web.  Try pressing into those areas.  If the pressure seems less in about 12 seconds, good job!  That means your muscles are relaxing.

Finger pain on the outsides of the fingers is usually caused by little muscles between the bones in your hands.  Press between the bones with a rubber-tipped tool such a pencil with a new eraser.

Thumb pain and finger pain can also be caused by muscles higher up.  Muscles near your elbow in your lower arm cause thumb and finger pain.  You can tell when muscles need treatment because with pressure they feel really tender.  Just get in there and explore.  Look for your tender areas in your hands and arms and either massage them yourself if you can or go to a massage professional.

You really can have carpal tunnel pain relief naturally.
