Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Movement–What is the Best to Relieve Hand and Wrist Pain

You didn’t have pain in your hands when you were a child, did you?  That would be pretty rare.  Here’s why:

Little kids are moving all the time.  They don’t have pain in
their hands because they use ALL of their muscles all of the time.

They run, climb, jump, slide, swing, hop, and do all of those fun movements.  And they do them NATURALLY.  They KNOW that is what feels good to them–that’s what their muscles like.

And so children have balanced muscles.

The muscles from front to back or side to side are all in use and all strong.  None are weaker or stronger than others.

But then, we go

to school, sit all day in desks, cars, couches…you see, we start to go downhill as far as muscle use.  🙁  We get “out of balance.”

That is also why Yoga is very helpful for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
(according to a study by the National Institutes of Health)–it helps
you use ALL of your muscles.  Their research said it worked better than night splints!

Here is what you can do right now:

  • Take the time to stretch your muscles in the OPPOSITE directions of the ones you work in.  Often!
  • Place your keyboard in the most comfortable position possible
(for me, this works on my lap.)  Keep your elbows close to your waist.  Keep wrists straight, like extensions of your arms.
  • And don’t forget to “smell the roses.”  Take time to look around and express gratitude for the beauty around you.  When you feel grateful for the good things around you, you have less pain and stress.  Every day write down 3 things you are grateful for and see how your life changes.

Yes, there is more to getting rid of your hand and wrist pain but you can do it–naturally!

  1. Hi Fiona,
Thank you for writing. Don’t just spend time here…take action on what you read. Sometimes we get so much great information but forget to take action so nothing gets any better.
Actually, I am sure I’m “preaching to the choir” here and that you will take the necessary natural steps to get rid of your wrist pain. 🙂
    Best,
    Kathryn
