Energetic Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is an entrapment and compression of the median nerve at the wrist. This supposedly happens because of repetitive hand movements such as those used in typing on the keyboard of a modern computer. It is a prevalent modern day occupational problem.
The current conservative treatment, which is not even a treatment, is total abstinence from all suspected activities that could cause the entrapment pain. This is achieved by analyzing the working environment, the related actions and the tools used. It is then followed by educational and ‘ergonomic’ changes to the work area.
Such changes consist of studies that indicate the most conducive desk, chair height, size and suitability to the human body. Notice how everything is changed to adapt to the weakness of humans. To compensate for the human weakness is the only known approach to this problem. There is no suggestion of even correcting the individual’s physical and functional weaknesses.
To lessen the hand and wrist pain, both are bandaged and placed in a neutral splinted position. This protects them when performing actions and also during periods of sleeping. Direct steroid injections to reduce inflammation and pain for this condition are generally used. Unfortunately, by the experts own admission, this has only about a 10% success rate even in the mildest of cases.
Operative procedures are advocated and performed after all the above treatments have failed. Post operative procedures require 2-3 months of rehabilitation. The current estimate Worker’s Compensation cost to treat one case of carpal tunnel syndrome in the U.S. is approximately $8000 to $12,000.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is estimated to cost each company about $40,000 in medical treatment, rehabilitation and lost wages per case.
